A man evicted from his house in the Ragusa province set himself on fire Tuesday, injuring his wife, daughter and two police officers, La Repubblica reported.
Giovanni Guarascio was involved in a heated discussion with the new owner of his house and his lawyer over his eviction. His wife and daughter were also present at the moment of the incident.
According to reports, a neighbor overheard the argument and called the police.
The two police officers who arrived tried to calm Guarascio down and convince him to leave the house, but he took a bottle of gasoline and poured it all over himself, La Repubblica reported.
One of the officers grabbed his arm in attempts to stop him, but he still managed to set himself on fire using a lighter.
Guarascio, his wife, daughter and the two police officers were burned. According to reports one of the officers recieved burns on 30 percent of his body while Guarascio's wife, daughter and the other officer reported minor injuries. Guarascio had the worst of the injuries and is now in the hospital being treated for burns covering 60 percent of his body.
