Police lapel footage shoes Officer Brian Pitzer firing his gun eight times at a suspect in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Albuquerque news have reported that Joaquin Ortega dropped his weapon before being fired upon but police have released lapel camera footage showing he dropped the weapon after shots were fired.

The 34-year-old, Ortega, was suspected of robbing a grandmother and grandson at gunpoint for $15 dollars. He also tried to carjack two people on October 29. He was also reported driving through his neighborhood, high on pills and alcohol, firing shots in the air.

This is the third time in six years that Brian Pitzer has been involved in police shootings. Officer Pitzer and Officer Hernandez shot two men armed with a sledgehammer and knife in November 2009 while responding to a noise complaint.

Pitzer also shot a mentally disabled man named Russell Tenorio in November of 2010 after he refused to drop a three inch knife. He is heard on an audio recording announcing "I'm going lethal" before entering the home. Pitzer reported that the man lunged at him with the knife but four other officers on the scene reported that Tenorio did not raise the knife or lunge at Pitzer. A lawsuit was filed against the APD.

Ortega was wounded in the shooting and is charged with aggravated assault on a police officer with a deadly weapon. Officer Brian Pitzer remains active with the Albuquerque police force.
