Six street cleaners were wounded by a small explosion near an anti-government protest site in Bangkok, Thailand, on Monday (February 10).
According to the Straits Times, the explosion occurred shortly before noon near the Phan Fa bridge on Ratchadamnoen Avenue in central Bangkok. Six cleaners from the city hall were changing tree pots on a street island when an improvised bomb went off.
Two workers, a man and a woman were seriously wounded and hospitalised, while four others were slightly injured.
According to the New Tang Dynasty Television, Thai police colonel Kamthorn Auicharoen said that the bomb was adapted from a fire cracker, shrapnel and wrapped with tape. The victims might have stepped on the bomb, which caused it to explode.
Anti-government demonstrators have occupied major intersections in Bangkok and blocked off several government ministries in an attempt to force Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra to step down.
