Families displaced by Pakistani airstrikes appeal to government to open roads

As the Pakistani military moves into areas bordering Afghanistan, local families are trying to get out

The military are here to flush out Taliban insurgents after they attacked the country's biggest airport earlier this month but many locals fear a long drawn out operation

50-year-old Sher Daraz piled his extended family of 18 into two hired vehicles and fled.

He was one of the lucky ones

Others have tried to leave only to find themselves caught behind roadblocks

(SOUNDBITE) (Pashto) TRUCK DRIVER FROM MIRANSHAH, RASULI JAN, SAYING:

"All traffic has been blocked. Some vehicles are loaded with people, with tribal people. They have been stopped by force (from the authorities). They are in great distress. If the government considers us its own people, they should be kind enough to open the roads for us."

The Pakistani military has said the operation will continue until all terrorists were eliminated but hasn't set a time limit.
