As a child, Ahed Tamimi gained international attention for fighting with Israeli soldiers after one of her brothers was arrested on November 11, 2012.

This video of Ahed Tamimi and another relative yelling at soldiers has been viewed more than 18 million times. It sparked accusations that Tamimi’s parents paraded their children in front of cameras for attention. The uploader of this video disputes those claims.

The IDF arrested Tamimi on December 19 after she confronted Israeli soldiers in Nabi Saleh the previous day.

As an even younger child, footage of her clinging to her mother during an arrest and being restrained by a soldier often resurfaces in reportage on the Tamimi family, who are based in Nabi Saleh, a village in the West Bank.

In 2015, photos and video of Ahed, her mother Nariman, and other relatives fighting an Israeli soldier who was choking her brother Mohammed Tamimi, 11 years old at the time, brought more international attention to the family.

Tamimi has been profiled by MSF and other international NGOs. Local news reported her father, Bassem, her mother Nariman, and a cousin, Noor, have all been arrested since December 19. Credit: YouTube/Samer Nazzal and Raya FM via Storyful
