Palestinian protesters blocked the convoy of Orthodox Patriarch Theophilus III of Jerusalem on January 6 as the convoy made its way to the Church of the Nativity in Bethlehem.
Bethlehem locals, the mayor of the city, and representatives from other towns boycotted a reception for the patriarch after the sale of buildings belong to the Orthodox church to Israeli organisations, according to Palestinian reports.
Orthodox Christian groups in the West Bank also launched a campaign against the patriarch and called for a boycott.
