BJP leader BS Yeddyurappa resigned as chief minister of Karnataka on May 19 ahead of a Supreme Court-mandated floor test in the state assembly. His resignation came two days after he was sworn in. The apex court had ordered the trust vote on a petition by the Congress and the JD(S) who had challenged governor Vajubhai Vala's decision to inivte Yeddyurappa to form government. The governor had also given the BJP leader 15 days to prove majority. BJP had emerged as the single largest party with 104 seats in the May 12 elections.
